Creston, Iowa – Summer 2024 – Southwestern Community College (SWCC), was looking to eliminate the need to outsource CDL training for local businesses, farmers, construction equipment operators, etc., and relocate their existing motorcycle safety course from the main campus parking lot. They needed to locate a site on campus to construct a large, paved surface while minimizing the amount of grading needed to accomplish the project and stay within budget. Garden & Associates was able to seamlessly expand upon a previous successful project at the Ag Site completed in 2019 (Ag Site Instructional Building and Parking Lot Improvements).  Improvements included removing and replacing the existing Agricultural Instruction Center entrance and a portion of the parking lot and roadways to accommodate large vehicles.  Added was a 300’x160’ training range which will be used to obtain CDLs as well as housing the college motorcycle training range.  The project was funded by three separate sources: a Local Match (SWCC), Iowa DOT Parks and Institutional Road Funds, and CDL Grant Funds.  With the cooperation of Garden & Associates, Southwestern Community College, the City of Creston Waterworks, IDOT, and Iowa Workforce Development, SWCC is now able to provide CDL training as well as Motor Cycle Safety courses to all of Southwest Iowa.
