Oskaloosa, Iowa – Summer 2023 – The city was experiencing crumbling pavement on 7th Street, a business corridor which includes Oskaloosa Municipal Water Department’s drive-in bill payments. The City received funding for the project through the Iowa Department of Transportation Surface Transportation Project SWAP program. In addition to the pavement resurfacing, the project included installation of a sidewalk on the west side of the corridor. The undertaking was further complicated by a railroad crossing, as well as the need to maintain traffic and access to the businesses along the route during the reconstruction process. The project was successfully completed with the cooperation between Garden & Associates, the City of Oskaloosa, the railroad company, the contractor, and the property owners along the route. After a summer and fall of construction, the City of Oskaloosa now has a new street surface that will provide many years of service to the public and the industrial entities along the corridor. Additionally, the newly completed sidewalk connects to the existing sidewalk infrastructure, improving safety and mobility to the community.
